Despite weather and council delays which shortened program for build time, the Vista team completed the work ahead of schedule to a high level of quality and right on budget.
This is notable considering the age of the house (Brick and tile state house built in 1948) and the level of intervention required to bring it up to a modern standard whilst maintaining a heritage appearance. The skill and experience demonstrated during the process together with attention to detail was exceptional and is fully reflected in the finished outcome.
We would not hesitate to engage Vista again on any future building project. The only regret is that we didn’t engage Vista for design services as well. In addition, we have no problem to fully endorse Vista to a prospective future customer.

We recently had some renovations done to our house in Te Atatu Peninsula, Auckland that included an extension and internal rearrangement.
Shaun Murphy and Vista Homes were chosen for this project because I have witnessed their work previously first-hand, as I run and painting and decorating business. Shaun runs his sites very professionally and efficiently, and this work style was continued throughout our entire project.
The style and the look that we wanted to achieve was slightly different to the current trend towards a modern aesthetic. We wanted to create something more of a ‘suburban bach’ look in a ‘retro’ vibe. For some builders this aesthetic brief may have been difficult, but for Shaun and the team at Vista Homes it was a welcomed challenge. I presented a scrapbook to convey my tastes and ideas that I wanted incorporated in to the project, and after some consideration the idea was put forward to re-use and up-cycle some of the original materials of the house such as the cedar weatherboards and old front door that would have otherwise been waste. The cedar weatherboards have become a truly stunning indoor wooden feature wall in our lounge that gets many compliments.
The front door has become a sliding door between our laundry and bathroom that provides a real point of difference and a touch of nostalgia to an otherwise purely functional room. These and other restrained wooden accents throughout have given us a home that is both modern and classic while reflecting our own personal taste.
We are very happy with the end result and have nothing but praise for Shaun and his team at Vista Homes. We highly recommend them to anyone who is looking to have work done at their home.

Under Shaun's no nonsense approach to management, site personnel was always supervised and cooperative, site was kept in tidy manner and site safety was always a priority. Shaun demonstrated good engineering knowledge in liaising with engineers and architects and excellent familiarity with complex set of plans for the project. I have worked with Shaun Murphy on Hamilton Rd project. The project involved adding an underfloor basement and garage to existing historic villa in Herne Bay, modifying the second floor living space by adding additional bedrooms and building a swimming pool and a deck at the rear of the existing house on a small site.
The construction involved an extensive dug-out under the existing house and was complicated by a challenging soil conditions at the rear yard, to rectify which deep concrete piles were proposed to support new swimming pool.
Shaun was running the day-to-day site activities which involved coordination and project management duties as well as carrying some building tasks. I found Shaun to be a very experienced builder and project manager. His attitude on site was always helpful and positive which meant that communication of engineering instructions and recommendations was carried out in timely and professional manner that is no doubt contributed to overall success of a complex project.

Shaun from Vista homes took on our home addition at great pace. It took 7 weeks upon consent which helped add two bathrooms, a laundry and a bedroom for our three kids including a 7 week old girl!
